Courage
…one must never be discouraged by defeats in one’s youth, but continue to learn throughout one’s whole life.
Courage is rightly esteemed the first of human qualities because, as has been said, it is the quality which guarantees all others.
Righteousness alone can exalt America as a nation. Whoever thou art, remember this; and in thy sphere practice virtue thyself, and encourage it in others.
Encourage all your virtuous dispositions, and exercise them whenever an opportunity arises, being assured that they will gain strength by exercise, as a limb of the body does, and that exercise will make them habitual.
Courtesy is as much a mark of a gentleman as courage.
